HOT WEATHER TIPS TO KEEP YOUR RV COOL

There is no doubt summertime is primetime for RV camping. The weather is great, the kids are out of school and exciting new adventures await you around the next bend. What more could an RVer ask for? How about a nice cool RV to beat some of the heat? It can be challenging to keep your RV cool when the mercury is rising, but following these simple tips is a good start.

The first thing I like to do is make sure the RV air conditioner is operating properly. Lots of folks don’t know this, but an air conditioner that is working efficiently will condition the air 16 to 22 degrees lower than the ambient temperature. This simply means if it is 90 degrees in the RV, a properly operating air conditioner will cool the interior space somewhere between 68 to 74 degrees. Testing the air conditioners performance is not that difficult, click here to view video.

Now that we know the RV’s air conditioner is operating efficiently, we can move on to some other ways to keep the RV cool in the summer heat.

UP UP AND AWAY PART 2! MORE ADVENTURES IN MICHIGAN’S U.P.

Forests, lakes, waterfalls, beaches, streams, sand dunes, ponds, and abundant wildlife are all a part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

We continued our adventure in Munising, MI, along Lake Superior’s southern shore. I called ahead to the campground to ask about available spots and the campground informed me that someone had just made a cancellation on a waterfront site! This isn’t the first time this has happened.

For instance, we used to live near Refugio Beach State Park in California. It’s a gorgeous campground right on the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, it books up a year in advance. While our busy schedules wouldn’t allow us to make reservations that far in advance, we could always get by calling and and asking about cancellations. People’s plans change all the time and if you are consistent (and polite) you’re bound to get a spot at some of the busiest campgrounds… or in this case one of the few lakefront spots!

Lake superior is the largest, coldest, and deepest of all the Great Lakes. It’s beautiful to behold and we were so excited that it was right in our backyard!

THE REVERSE SNOWBIRD – RVING TO FLORIDA IN THE SUMMER

Snowbirds is a term for people who leave colder climates to migrate south in the winter to areas like Florida, California, Arizona and Texas. I grew up in Minnesota and went to college in a small town way up north. It was so cold that the college built underground tunnels connecting each building because they knew college kids wouldn’t head out into -20 degree weather to sit in a lecture. After so many cold winters, I understand why people head south when the weather starts to turn cold.

As an entrepreneur I often ask myself, “what if I did the opposite of what everybody else is doing?” Some of the biggest rewards in my life have come from doing the unconventional. Our RV trip to Florida was one of these rewards of going against the grain.

The idea of being reverse snowbirds came after we unknowingly took a trip in the off season to southern Utah. In the winter it felt like we had everything to ourselves! I hiked Angels Landing and watched the sunrise as I reached the summit. I spent over an hour at the top with just myself and my thoughts. It was beautiful!

A few days later I did a huge loop trail in Bryce Canyon and didn’t see anyone the entire hike. It felt like I had the entire national park to myself that day.
